Missing You (Part I & II)

Mel's response to the Picnic Drabble Challenge

Missing You (Part 1)

Paul could stand it no longer he missed Danny and needed to spend some time with him.

It was a three hour drive to Camp Huronda, but it would be worthwhile. Danny was giving up his summer to volunteer at the camp for diabetic children.

Paul booked reservations at Deerhurst Resort and ordered a picnic basket with Danny’s favourites.

When Paul arrived at Huronda, he found Danny up to his knees in water catching frogs with four little boys. The smiles and laughter of those children suddenly made the sacrifice of spending the summer without his partner worth every minute.

Missing You Part 2

Danny couldn’t believe that Paul had driven all the way to Huronda on a Sunday just to take him on a picnic.

They sat in the quiet meadow near the camp and Paul carefully unpacked the basket. He announced each item as he placed it in front of his partner, “chicken salad with pineapple and almonds; a green salad with red onion and balsamic dressing; a crusty baguette; a bottle of pinot noir; and a slice of cheesecake to share. And after we’re done here, reservations at Deerhurst where I intend to show you just how much I’ve missed you.”
